Heartbreak hits Trussville again as a cherished Italian restaurant closes its doors for the second time. This news, published on January 9, 2026, by William Thornton of AL.com, has left many in the Birmingham area feeling nostalgic and saddened.
Tamburro’s Italian Home, a familiar name for many, located off Chalkville Mountain Road in the Trussville Shopping Center, has once again ceased operations. Co-owner Kyleen Kramer shared the difficult news on social media, expressing deep sadness about the immediate closure.
"This was a very difficult decision, but we can no longer keep the business open," Kramer stated. "We have truly enjoyed this journey and are so thankful for all the memories and support you have given us." This echoes the sentiments of many loyal patrons who have enjoyed the restaurant over the years.
But here's where it gets controversial... The original Tamburro’s Italian restaurant, a Trussville staple, was run by Dick Tamburro and his sons. It was known for its cozy atmosphere, housed in a white, porch-lined building, and offering a menu of classic Italian dishes in intimate dining rooms. The restaurant closed around 2010 when Dick Tamburro retired.
Fast forward to 2023, and the restaurant was revived by Kyleen Kramer, Dick Tamburro’s daughter, and her sister-in-law, Tina Tamburro. Their reopening brought joy to many who remembered the original establishment.
In her farewell message, Kramer wrote, "Thank you for being part of our family and our story. We wish you all the best and hope to see you again someday."
