Ken Ofori-Atta's Legacy Under Scrutiny: Adawudu's Warning & Accountability Questions (2026)

Is this really the legacy you wish to leave for your children? This is the challenging question posed by Kojogah Adawudu to Ken Ofori-Atta.

Kojogah Adawudu, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, has launched a vigorous critique against Ken Ofori-Atta, the former Minister of Finance, emphasizing the need for him to provide accountability to the Ghanaian public. Adawudu warns that failing to do so could irreparably tarnish the reputation of Ofori-Atta’s family.

During an appearance on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on January 12, 2026, Adawudu expressed confusion over why someone who once held such a pivotal financial position would seemingly shy away from addressing serious allegations. "Why are you avoiding responsibility? As a former finance minister who understands the principles of public duty, why won’t you step forward and clarify matters for the citizens of Ghana?" he questioned.

In light of ongoing investigations, including shocking revelations from the Attorney General regarding Ofori-Atta, Adawudu pointedly raised concerns about the long-term implications of Ofori-Atta's actions. He suggested that neglecting accountability could impose a lasting burden on his descendants. "Is this truly the legacy you want to pass down? A narrative where your father refused to be accountable, was exposed, or even accused of misappropriating public funds?" he challenged.

Adawudu drew a provocative parallel between Ken Ofori-Atta and his great uncle, J B Danquah, referring to the historical context of Danquah’s imprisonment during Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s era. "There’s already a stain on your family history. Given the stories surrounding J B Danquah and his tragic fate in detention, is this the legacy you wish to repeat and hand down through generations?" he asked, stirring deeper reflection on familial histories.

Furthermore, Adawudu criticized Ofori-Atta’s attitude towards law enforcement, asserting that cooperating with authorities should not be seen as a disgrace. "When you willingly respond to a police invitation, they’re not going to put you in handcuffs. I was taken aback when the Office of the Special Prosecutor labeled him a fugitive, but his actions today suggest he is indeed evading responsibilities," he remarked.

These comments come in the wake of heightened public discourse following reports of Ofori-Atta’s recent encounter with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) regarding his visa status, which compounds his ongoing legal and political struggles both domestically and internationally.

Meanwhile, it’s worth noting the tribute paid by NDC MPs and party leadership to the late Naser Toure Mahama, a moment that highlights the importance of legacy in political realms.
